Tokyo station is one of the busiest stations in Japan where a million passengers pass through daily. Set during the Christmas season, the story portrays many kinds of love involving a number of characters, revolving around the station. A CEO who's lost faith in love, a couple in a long distance relationship, a college girl who's secretly in love, an orphan who dreams to spend Christmas with her mother, a father who must confront his family he hasn't much to live, and an old lady remembering a promise 49 years overdue... Six separate stories are shown to be interlinked as the film progresses.

Motoki started his career by joining Shochiku in 1987. In 1993, he was given a one-year study grant in the US by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He made his directorial debut with Tenamonya Shosha (1998). His main films include Drugstore Girl (2004), Kitaro (2007), 10 Promises to My Dog (2008), Kitaro and the Millennium Curse (2008), Kamogawa Horumo (2009), and Welcome Home, Hayabusa (2012).
